Local Councils May Also Help

There are already almost 30 Hungarian teacher of Csango, Szekler or Hungarian origin teaching Csango children their mother tongue in Moldova.

We would like to start te Hungarian education in a number of new villages. We need new teachers to continue our educational program. There are several interested applicants, but we also need to provide their compensation.

We are waiting to hear from local governments in Hungary or Transylvania, who can support us by paying salary for one or more teachers.

In exchange we can offer one of the 2 of our "House of the Children" for groups arriving from the local governments during the holiday season.

Waiting for Advent

We would like to express our sincere thank you to Father Balazs Szucs, who is responsible for the rectory at the Peter Pazmany Catholic University for making the 10 days of Advent special for 10 children of Kulsorekecsin, my colleague and myslef.

We spent 5 beautiful days in Piliscsaba, Budapest and Szentendre on the invitation of Father Balazs, where the children presented customs and folklore for Christmas and New Year.

We would like to thank you our hosts for the children's programs and the great hospitality, and wishing them God’s blessing.

Charity Ball of the Rotary-Club in Miskolc Tapolca

The Rotary Club of Miskolc-Tapolca held its traditional charity ball on the 5th November, 2006. As a surprise event, children from Kulsorekecsin were invited to perform a small presentation of dancing and singing

Tamas Ormos and Istvan Gulyas, key participants of the godparents program, provided a great hospitality, and invited us to the cave bath of the city, and also for an adventure tour.

We shall remember these 2 wonderful days for a long time. The talk about the trip by the children in Reverinda held in November spoke for itself.

Thank you very much for everything.

Volksong contest of Szeret - for the third time

The Hungarian House of Pusztina was full of song, bustle and colourful mixture of folk costumes on 25 November 2006. The students of 15 Moldavian settlements arrived already one day earlier. They were welcomed by the children and their families of Pusztina. The students were seen by their teachers, taking part in the Csango educational program.
The Association of Csango-Hungarians of Moldova asked Mr erenc Ségercz, Mr Szabolcs Csibi and Mr Csaba Érsek, the members of the consorts named Fabatka and Kalagor from Sepsiszentgyörgy, to be the jurymen. The attendance of Ramona Chiriac, the representative of the Bákó county's prefectura and commissioner for minorities, was very honorific for us.
Already before the beginning of the contest, the children welcomed the audience with loud singing and flute playing. The community house was full, the contest was ready to be started. The host of the contest, Mrs. Ilona Nyisztor asked the last year's winners and the students who went on studying to encourage the participants and open the program with their performance. It was followed by the draw, that decided the order how the children will get to the centre of the jury’s and the audience’s attention.
Each village could be represented by two students: one studying in class I-IV, the other studying in class V-VIII. The younger ones had to know 5 folksongs, out of which one was to be chosen by the contester, while the other one was chosen by the jury. The elder students had a list of 10 folksongs.
We could see, that both younger and elder ones were very crafted, well-prepared with beautiful voice. Correlating to the contests of 2004 and 2005, this year's field was even tighter. The hosts rejoiced the audience with tales, spouting, common singing and a brief folkdance performance.
Sometimes the contesters gave rise to storm of applause, sometimes to tears of the audience. But the songs were singed, the contest got to its end and the jury had to decide, sith the prizes were to be meted out. It was a tough task to make the ranking, minding the knowledge of the text, the originality of the chosen folksongs, the artlessness of the singers, intonation, tunefulness and many further aspects. Finally the jury decided to share the first prize among two elder contesters, while they could manage to rank the younger ones.
The contest was recorded, so the most beautiful songs will be soon available on CD.
The contest was followed by the concert of the jury members (they had the opportunity to show their own abilities...) In the evening contesters, the population of the village, the guests and hosts danced and song in the dance house. This year's folksong contest ended by Sunday morning. We participated in a common mass, then everyone travelled home.
We hope, that the participating children and our guests had a great time, just as we, the organisers did. One is for sure: next year we will meet again. We adults, teachers and responsible intellectuals can say, that it was early to ring out the folk culture of Moldavian Csangos. The willpower and the beautiful voice of the children continue and celebrate this rich folk culture within its own media, that is the common treasure of the entire Hungarian community.
We thank the support and help of the Ministry for Youth, Family and Even Chance, the Illyés Foundation, the Szent István Association of Pusztina, the Domokos Pál Péter Foundation and Mr. Tamás Tündik.
