Secular songs
from Moldova in the performance of the students from Pusztina, taking
part in the Csango-Hungarian Educational Program
Recently a CD has been brought
out by the Association of Csango-Hungarians in Moldova, presenting
27 secular songs, folksongs, in the performance of students
from Pusztina. These students are taking part in the Csango-Hungarian
Educational Program and learn folksong at Mrs Ilona Nyisztor.
The Association of Csango-Hungarians in Moldova renders thanks

We are
publishing with great pleasure the most interesting songs
of the III. Folk Song
Contest by Szeret.
The CD reflects the rich culture of the Csangoes
in Moldova living East of the Carpathian mountains.
The songs are presented by young school children.
Our pupils of 16 Csango villages met in Pusztina
November 2006 to show a professional jury their
knowledge of folk songs. Even if the couldnot match
the niveau of the professional singers, they have
clearly demonstrated the survival of the Csango
culture. This culture is still
around despite of several
years of assimilation. The children know the dancesof
their ancestors, and they were competing, who knows more
Hungarian folk songs.
This is a small sign that we havenot given up on the Csango
case. Receiving help from the Hungarians livng within
the Carpats is essential though. The situation of the
Csangoesin Moldoa was neglected for a very long time.
A significant amont of time has passed without Hungarian
speaking priests and teachers in the villages.
The children have proved that they wanted to learn and
to sing in Hungarian. Now we have to prove to them that
we want and are able to send Hungarian teachers to their
villages. There are at least 20 Csango villages, where
te children can speak and understand Hungarian, bt we
cannot yet provide Hungarian teachers.
If you would like to help, please visit our web-site www.csango.ro.
Let's improve this siutuation together. We hope that the
folk song contests by Szeret will continue in the following
years. We hope that with your help we can expand the Hungarian
education to more villages, so there could be an increased
number of participants every year in the Moldovan gala
of folk songs.
Sincerely,
Attila Hegyeli

For the second time we have succeeded to complete
a new CD with the songs of the "Folksong Competition from
the River Szeret". On this CD you can enjoy the songs of
the second Folksong competition that was held on 12 November
2005 in Kulsorekecsin. You can also see the photos of the competition
