The Association of Csango-Hungarians
in Moldova had recently passed a request for enquiry to the Anti-Discriminatory
Council (CNCD) in Bucarest.
In the request we had called attention to the discriminatory measures
took by the church, that is the local ecclesiastical body declared
to the children: any of them who attend the Hungarian language
seminars provided in school can not participate on the confirmation
mass on this summer.
Two contributors of CNCD have visited Klézsé on June 11th where
they met the management of the school, the bible study teacher,
the ecclesiastical body, the local Hungarian language teacher
(Angéla Istók), and half a dozen of parents.
The visit was just at the right time, since the two priests of
Klézsé have not changed their mind: last Friday on the mass the
main issue was the "Hungarian menace", even by mentioning
our teacher by name, and the priest made his negative meaning
about the Hungarian language and culture perfectly clean. He insisted
the parents to take their children out of the Hungarian language
seminars.
The contributors of CNCD stated
that they will decide later, this visit served as information
gathering only.
The
question is: confirmation or Hungarian language classes?
Since May 8, 2008 the parson (Pascariu
Augustin) and his assistant (Hodea Cristian) are constantly working
on the abolishing of Hungarian classes in school.
On the confirmation preparation
classes they are making the children aware that if they still attend
the Hungarian language seminars, they will not be able to participate
on the confirmation mass this summer.
Since they were not successful on the preparatory classes they continued
their "enlighten campaign" on the bible classes as well,
in which they were trying to force the children, even by intimidation
or absurd lies, to give their teachers in writing that not to consider
them as Hungarian language seminar students anymore.
In spite of all these there were still some who wanted to go to
the Hungarian language classes, therefore the priests set a deadline
for Tuesday 8 o'clock when they will be in school and want to see
who goes in or who wants to participate on the confirmation mass,
meaning handing in the request for leaving the Hungarian school.
There were many among the 46 students, who wrote themselves the
request for leaving the Hungarian language classes, but they were
explaining to their teacher (Angéla Istók) in crying that they like
being on the lessons, but confirmation is highly important in the
local society.
When Angéla Istók visited the priests personally, they stated that
they do not agree with the Hungarian classes and will do whatever
it takes to stop the classes in the school of Klézsé.
With their unchristian behavior they offended our teacher as well.
Our Association has laid a complaint in the case to the Anti-Discriminatory
Council (CNCD) in Bucharest, since in our opinion forbidding children
from confirmation because they take legal language classes is entirely
discriminatory.
